Privacy Statement

The Government of Canada (GoC) and Environment Canada are committed to respecting the personal privacy of individuals who visit our Web sites. This page summarizes the privacy policy and practices of Environment Canada Web sites.

• The GoC does not automatically gather any personal information from you, such as your name, phone number, e-mail or street address during your visit to its Web sites. This information is only obtained if you supply it voluntarily, usually through contacting us via e-mail, or registering in a secure portion of the site.
• Privacy Act. This means that, at the point of collection, you will be informed that your personal information is being collected, the purpose for which it is being collected and that you have a right of access to the information.
• Some institutions within the GoC use software that receives and records the Internet Protocol (IP) addresses of computers that have connected with their Web sites. In such instances, institutions make no attempt to link these addresses with the identity of individuals visiting GoC sites.
• Whenever we enable "cookies" to facilitate your transactions, we will first inform you. (Note: Cookies are files that a Web site can place on your hard drive, without your knowledge, to monitor your use of that site.)
• Visitor information is not disclosed to anyone except GoC personnel who need the information, e.g., to respond to a request.
